Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was raised and born to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam is a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. When she was 5 years young, her father got a position as a curator for the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family was able to move into the landmark historical building. In 2005 she graduated from Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of a major in vocal music. Sullivan began singing in the children's chorus as a contralto before joining the adult choir a few years further on. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was at first limited "I had solos singing in the church, and I was asked to go on a gospel label when I had turned eleven, however I wasn't yet ready," she recalls. After that, McDonald's held a contest with children from large cities. I had the opportunity to sing "Accept the Grace of God" in the show Showtime At the Apollo. And the crowd responded very well. Stevie Wonder sang her part during her grandsons 13th birthday party. Sullivan was first signed to Jive Records at the age fifteen. There, she recorded an entire album. But the album never came out. Sullivan was eventually removed from the label. Missy Elliott was the producer on a couple of tracks in the album she released her debut. One of them was "Backstabbers" by Timbaland and Timbaland, which Elliott produced, became an instant hit.
